Most of us are juggling more than one thing that needs our focus.
There's kids, partnership, family, perhaps an extra job, love, life, adventure! Then there's clinic, a business, growth, ideas, the emotional side of clients stories and your story... It's a whole lotta stuff to fit into one persons energy! But the truth is, you do have the capacity for all of it. Though you need to have patience. The key for me comes in rotating my focus. I just can't do it all at the same time, and definitely not in the time frames I seem to set myself! If you're busy closing down, feeling guilty and shameful, you're going to miss those little moments of inspiration. And you're not going to have the energy to act on them. Family is my number 1 priority. I have to be honest with you - my knowledge of this and my actions have not always been cohesive. For me, ideas and my external journey can be a whole lot easier then motherhood and domesticity. Motherhood & Partnership is emotionally challenging, it requires me to be present. As do all relationships. You always have one area which is more challenging.. perhaps you're a natural relationship person and business is what requires a little more of your attention. Perhaps you're much more comfortable looking after your own health and wants and needs than in the giving space. None of it is 'wrong'. There is nothing to be guilty about. It just is. And we look at it honestly, because we need to know what our values are what feeds us and makes us feel the most settled in our hearts, and where our energy has actually been going. If you're trying to do it all at once, you're going to get scrambled and do none of it well. If family needs your attention at the moment, go with it, let your business build more slowly. If your business needs your attention at the moment, pull in more support at home. If your health needs your attention, let go of the external pressures and focus inward for a bit. Remember life is allllllll cycles! Day/Night, Summer/Winter, Full Moon/New Moon, Sunshine/Rain The scales will tip And probably quicker if you just let yourself let go of the stuff that is not as important right now and focus entirely on what is. And if it all absolutely needs your attention at the moment, let the day be full of cycles instead. I'm writing this now, after spending a beautiful day with my family and no work, I've put the kids to bed, spent a couple of hours relaxing with my partner and because this article has been nagging at me, I've jumped up and got it done in 15 minutes! And that's because my mind is at peace, it's relaxed and my heart is full. This is one of my lessons, today I got it right perhaps tomorrow I won't. But it will be nice to come back to this reminder right here. Let it flow. With warmth and joy, Emma

It's not uncommon to feel stuck when you run your own business, on your own,
you're reliant on bookings and not enough seem to be coming through! I've found, as therapists, it's also common when we feel this way to go down the road of focusing only on the possible mental/emotional blockages. While this is great and necessary, it can also perpetuate the stuck cycle! (i.e. too much yin and not enough yang!) Sometimes what you need is just some yang. Find just one thing that you've been procrastinating on in your business.. and set aside some time to just do it. If you don't know what you're doing - research it. If you're not sure of your abilities - try it anyway. If you're feeling like you really can't get through - get some mentoring/coaching! You don't have to be 'instagram worthy' from the get go. Just start with the really small steps that you can do now. Let it grow as organically does. |
