Trauma Informed Essentials
For Holistic Therapists
Let's go beyond the techniques..
Understanding Trauma, Safety
& the Nervous System
Holding trauma in clinic isn't always simple..
We often meet protective responses
that can make trust, connection and openness feel difficult to build.
How do we navigate this cycle?
How do we meet our clients here
and become a truly trusted and safe place
for our clients with the greatest need?
Because the unfortunate truth is
- most healthcare is failing in this area at the moment...
and our spaces as holistic therapists, become that safe place where people have the time and presence to let go
How we hold that space is so important.
In this free training, I'll teach you the essentials
- but also with the holistic twist!

Presented by Emma Sternberg,

Thank you for joining us!
I'm Emma Sternberg, Holistic Therapist, Educator and Founder of The Practitioner Table.
I've been working in clinic as well as teaching practitioners for th past 20 years.
I've learnt a thing or two about the pathway that trauma takes with the emotions and nervous system.
"Life After Trauma" is always my goal - how do we help you not just to feel it, but build your new sense of self afterwards.
Over the years, as trauma education becomes more prevalent, I've noticed the gap that exists for Holistic Therapists - from all modalities. We have the heart, but not the training...
and as more people find our spaces safe enough to let go in, we need to meet that need with professionalism.
This is the gap I'm meeting you here with.
Because if we can elevate our knowledge and wisdom, our industry has a bright future in healthcare!
It's not just Holistic Therapists that need more trauma-informed knowledge... this is essential for every health care professional.
Last year I gave a GP a call to tell her that she had missed something
incredibly important.
A regular client was suffering intense and persistent suicidal ideation
that was exacerbated by a new medication.
But because of this clients complex trauma background and anxiety,
instead of asking the GP for help when she entered the room,
something made her shut down and pretend it was ok.
I received a call afterwards - "the GP dismissed me".
The truth however was different,
the GP didn't read the cues. They were subtle
and when those cues were missed,
the traumatised mind decided that the GP was unsafe.
Daily, I meet a client who feels like they've been
dismissed by other health professionals.
This is what trauma does,
it creates separation between you and everyone else.
And so your client who goes quiet, or talks too much about nothing,
or ghosts you,
or becomes irritated in the sessions
or says "I don't know" to everything you ask..
is someone who needs to be held gently and met with understanding.
But it will feel like they block you at the same time.
As a practitioner, you will feel judged.
Because thats the truth - you're being judged on your receptiveness.
It's just what trauma does.
This is why trauma-informed knowledge is so incredibly important
and why I'm so passionate about it!
It's honestly a module that should be in our courses multiple times over!
But it rarely is in even once...
and so we are left with a gap..
hopefully I can help you bridge that gap,
so that you don't miss the cues,
so that you don't feel uncomfortable when a client blocks you out
so that instead you see it and are able to help someone who is desperate to seek help but can't find the words to ask.
